We’ll depart Fresno at 7:00 a.m. with a rest stop en-route going and on the return.

Following our rest stop, we’ll make our way to Union Square in downtown San Francisco. The one-block plaza that makes up Union Square and its surrounding area is one of the largest collections of department stores, upscale boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, and beauty salons in the United States, making Union Square a major tourist destination and a vital, cosmopolitan gathering place in downtown San Francisco.

Originally a tall sand dune, the square was set aside to be made into a public park in 1850. Union Square got its name from the pro-Union rallies held there by Thomas Starr King before and during the Civil War. The monument itself is also a tribute to the sailors of the United States Navy. It has since earned designation as a California Historical Landmark. The 97 ft tall Dewey Monument, dedicated to Admiral George Dewey’s victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish American War, is located at the center of Union Square. It is a statue of Nike, the ancient Greek Goddess of Victory. Grand hotels and small inns, as well as repertory, off-Broadway, and single-act theaters also contribute to the area’s dynamic, 24-hour character.

After enjoying Union Square for the day, we’ll depart San Francisco at 4:45 p.m. with a rest stop en-route. Our arrival back in Fresno is at approximately 9:15 p.m.
